Kathmandu. Singer Sujan Chapagain has responded publicly after screenshots of alleged private Instagram conversations went viral on social media, saying he is not responsible for all of the content being circulated online.
Currently on a music tour in Australia, Chapagain issued a statement on Facebook, saying he became aware of the controversy while abroad and wanted to clarify his position.
According to the singer, his busy schedule has made it difficult for him to manage his social media accounts personally. He said his accounts had been handled by different social media managers over time and suggested that the alleged misuse may have occurred during that period. "Because I couldn't manage my social media on my own, different social media managers have handled my accounts at different times. My initial assumption is that there may have been some misuse during that period," he wrote.
Chapagain also said he had discovered multiple fake social media accounts operating under his name and claimed that unethical activities had been carried out through them. Describing such actions as irresponsible and unethical, he said he has already initiated an investigation into the matter.
While acknowledging that he had exchanged messages in the past with people he considered close friends, Chapagain apologized for any distress caused. However, he maintained that he was unaware of much of the content now circulating online. "It is true that I exchanged messages with friends whom I considered close. I sincerely apologize from the bottom of my heart for the unfortunate situation that arose from that. But I am unaware of all the content that has appeared on social media," he stated.
Chapagain also announced that he plans to pursue legal action once he returns to Nepal.
Over the past few days, several women have shared screenshots on social media claiming they received offensive and sexually explicit messages from an Instagram account bearing Chapagain's name. The screenshots include sexually suggestive conversations and inappropriate proposals. Some of the conversations appear to have been conducted using Instagram's Vanish Mode, a feature that automatically deletes messages after they are viewed, making them unavailable in the chat history.
The authenticity of the viral screenshots has not been independently verified, and no official investigation findings have been made public so far.
