Fourteen-year-old Maltese racing driver Benji Westwood, competing with Victory Lane, has secured an outstanding third-place finish at the IAME Euro Series in Wackersdorf, Germany, one of the world’s most competitive karting championships.
Competing against some of the biggest names and brightest young talents in international motorsport, Westwood delivered an exceptional performance throughout the weekend to claim a podium finish in his very first Senior category race.
Arriving at the event with no expectations, Westwood immediately showed impressive pace by topping free practice sessions before qualifying in third place. Despite a series of fiercely contested heats, he remained among the frontrunners to earn a place in Saturday’s final.
Starting from seventh on the grid, the young Maltese driver fought his way through the field with a composed and determined drive to finish third, earning Malta a podium finish on one of karting’s biggest international stages.
The result comes after months of hard work and adaptation, with Westwood stepping up to a completely new category while also racing with a new team, chassis, engine package and tyres.
“Racing at this level is no joke. Every driver on the grid is incredibly fast, and you’re racing against some of the biggest young talents in world karting. To come to our very first Senior race with zero expectations and leave with a podium is an unbelievable feeling. I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved this weekend,” Westwood said.
The podium marks another major milestone in the young driver’s career as he continues to climb the international karting ranks, proudly representing Malta against some of Europe’s best emerging racers.
Congratulations, Benji!
