Prabowo says great nations face problems instead of avoiding them

Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto stressed that a nation's success is defined not by its ability to avoid problems, but by its determination to confront and overcome every challenge and obstacle.

He underscored the importance of embracing criticism, constructive feedback, and working collaboratively to resolve challenges.

According to him, every difficulty should be faced with courage rather than avoided or concealed, stressing that the government must acknowledge its shortcomings and pursue effective solutions.

"I believe that difficulties must be overcome and we must have the courage to face difficulties, the courage to admit difficulties, and work hard to find solutions to them," Prabowo said at the closing of the National Seminar at the Indonesian Science, Technology, and Industry Convention in Jakarta on Sunday.

He reminded all attending rectors and academics that every suggestion received by the government will be studied and followed up as part of efforts to improve governance.

"I received a fairly extensive list of suggestions and questions. I promise I will pay attention to each one," he continued.

The head of state said this perspective was shaped by the feedback he has received over time. He believes that successful organizations and nations are those that can honestly recognize their challenges and take concrete steps to resolve them.

"I have learned this from the many inputs I have received. Successful organizations, communities, and countries are those that have the courage to identify their difficulties and shortcomings, and then address them," he said.

On the same occasion, Prabowo also emphasized the importance of safeguarding academic freedom on university campuses. He said differences of opinion are a natural part of higher education, as long as they contribute to ideas and innovations that benefit society.

He expressed hope that universities would continue advancing science and technology for the public good. Prabowo also reminded educators that both public and private educational institutions benefit from various forms of government support.

"Universities should continue advancing science and technology for the benefit of the people, who ultimately support all educational institutions. The private sector also plays an important role, but it likewise benefits from government support, including electricity and fuel subsidies. That is how a nation works," he said.
