President Trump on Sunday slammed two New York Times reporters that cover his presidency and accused them of fabricating information from meetings inside the top secret Situation Room.
“Based on a very quick and boring briefing concerning the Magot Hagerman book about me, it is mostly made up, Fake News, largely fiction, as have been most of the things she has written about me for so many years,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, referring to New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman.
“She is a third rate writer and intellect, who has made a first rate income because of your favorite President, ME,” he added.
Haberman and Jonathan Swan have recently shared excerpts of their reporting set to be published in their book “Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump.” Swan is also a former reporter for The Hill.
Portions of the book allege Trump administration officials have considered suspending habeas corpus and strategized on how to handle the Jeffrey Epstein scandal during a meeting inside the Situation Room.
Haberman and Swan’s reporting includes direct quotes from Vice President Vance, acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, White House chief of staff Susie Wiles and White House communications director Steven Cheung during the Epstein meeting, which has led some to believe that the reporters were provided with audio tapes of the high level security gathering.
Haberman and Swan are both respected reporters in Washington circles who have previously done extensive reporting on the Trump White House as well as interviews with Trump.
The two have said they’re “not going to comment” on whether they were provided audio but they have continued to defend the legitimacy of their reporting.
Some administration officials have been spooked by the possibility of audio tapes, including Vance who said he’s “legitimately worried” about potential recordings.
