
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former Lagos State Governor and ex-Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, on his birthday, describing him as an outstanding administrator whose contributions to governance and national development have left an enduring legacy.
Fashola, who was born on June 28, 1963, turns 63 on Sunday (today).
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the former governor’s leadership, professionalism and commitment to progressive governance.
The President described the former minister as an accomplished legal practitioner and patriotic Nigerian whose exemplary public service had made a lasting impact, particularly in Lagos State.
He also commended Fashola’s loyalty to the ideals of good governance, integrity in public office, intellectual depth and commitment to nation-building.
Tinubu recalled Fashola’s service as his Chief of Staff between 2003 and 2006 before succeeding him as governor of Lagos State, where he served from 2007 to 2015.

According to the President, Fashola built on the gains of progressive governance through landmark reforms in infrastructure, transportation, security, education, healthcare, environmental management and public sector administration.
“Fashola’s commitment to excellence, which helped to transform Lagos into a model of innovation and sustainable urban development, will continue to signpost him as an outstanding governor and leader,” Tinubu said.
The President also acknowledged Fashola’s service in the Federal Executive Council between 2015 and 2023, where he oversaw the ministries of Works, Power and Housing.
“We must also commend his dedicated service in the Federal cabinet between 2015 and 2023, when he took charge of critical ministries of Works, Power and Housing,” he added.
Tinubu prayed for the former governor’s continued good health, wisdom and strength.
“As former governor Fashola celebrates another year, I wish him well. I pray that Almighty Allah will grant him many more years in good health, wisdom, strength and fulfilment as he continues to contribute to the growth, unity and prosperity of our nation,” the President said.
