(NEXSTAR) – It’s nearly July, which means some are in for a little extra income.
July marks another special month in which those who are paid weekly and every other week have a chance at seeing an additional paycheck.
Because the 52 weeks in a year can’t be divided equally across the 12 months of the year, some months have one more Friday (meaning a possible “extra” paycheck).
This is the third triple-payday month of the year, following April and May.
Will you get a bonus paycheck in July?
If you’re paid bi-weekly and you celebrated a third paycheck in May, then no, July will not bring you an additional bank deposit.
Can’t recall if you had an extra paycheck last month? Look at when you were last paid.
If your most recent paycheck came on June 25 or 26, you will not see three paydays in July. If you haven’t been paid since the third week of June, you can expect an additional payment in July.
If you’re paid weekly, you’ll also see a bonus paycheck next month.
After July, the next triple payday month is October. Those receiving an additional payday in July, however, will have to wait until January for their next “bonus” month.
It’s important to note that whenever you receive an extra check, it isn’t like you won the lottery. Instead, financial experts encourage treating the payments as what they are: a portion of the entire salary you’re entitled to this year. If your budget is balanced for the month, they recommend putting the additional funds toward paying down a debt, setting aside for another month, or tucking it away in your savings.
