Italian Ambassador Luca Ferrari welcomed renowned journalist Maurizio Molinari to Reichman University, where students explored AI, democracy, antisemitism, and Italy-Israel relations.
The Italian Ambassador to Israel, HE Amb. Luca Ferrari, joined students and faculty at Reichman University for a special welcome event honoring Maurizio Molinari, one of Italy’s most prominent journalists and public intellectuals, who recently joined the faculty of the Sammy Ofer School of Communication.
Molinari, an acclaimed journalist, essayist, and former editor-in-chief of Italy’s leading daily newspaper La Repubblica, will teach courses focusing on artificial intelligence platforms and the ways democratic societies confront emerging global challenges.
The event brought together the Italian students from the Raphael Recanati International School for a wide-ranging discussion on the importance of academic dialogue, the fight against antisemitism, and the evolving relationship between Italy and Israel amid a rapidly changing international landscape.
Ambassador Ferrari highlighted the longstanding ties between the two countries and underscored the value of academic cooperation in fostering mutual understanding and addressing shared challenges.
Molinari spoke about the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on media, politics, and society, emphasizing the responsibility of democratic institutions to adapt while safeguarding fundamental values and freedoms.
Among those in attendance was RUNI Provost, Prof. Amnon Lehavi as well as Italian students studying at the Raphael Recanati International School (RRIS), who participated in the discussion and engaged directly with both speakers. The event provided a unique opportunity for students to hear firsthand perspectives on international affairs, journalism, and the future of democratic discourse.
The initiative was spearheaded by Jonathan Davis, Vice President of Reichman University and Head of the Raphael Recanati International School and the Italian students with the aim of strengthening ties between Italian students on campus and leading figures from Italy’s diplomatic, academic, and media worlds. “The sixty Italian students we have on campus fill me with great pride,” said Davis. “Seeing how they integrate into life here at Reichman University and continue to build bridges between their two communities, in Israel and in Italy. We hope to grow this community of Italian students on campus”.
