
Alhaja Sidikat Basiru, the mother of the national secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Ajibola Basiru, is dead.
Her death was announced in Osogbo, Osun State, on Sunday, in a statement signed by the state APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi.
Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, commiserated with Basiru on the passing of his mother.
The governor described the late Alhaji Basiru as a woman who lived a fulfilled life, raised worthy children and made a lasting impact in her community.
“On behalf of my wife, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, our family, the Lagos State Government and all APC leaders and members in Lagos, I sympathise with Senator Ajibola Basiru, his siblings, and the entire Basiru family on the demise of Alhaja Sidikat Abake Basiru,” the statement read.
Expressing condolences, the national chairman of the APC, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, on Sunday, described the late matriarch as a woman whose life was marked by faith, dignity, sacrifice and commitment to her family.
The APC chairman, on behalf of the party’s National Working Committee, leaders and members nationwide, extended his sympathies to Basiru, the entire Basiru family and the people of Osun State over the loss.
Yilwatda said, “On behalf of the National Working Committee, party leaders, members and supporters across the country, I extend my heartfelt condolences to Senator Ajibola Basiru, the entire Basiru family, and the people of Osun State on the passing of a matriarch whose life was defined by faith, dignity, sacrifice and unwavering devotion to her family.”
He noted that the late mother of the APC national secretary left behind a legacy of values that would continue to inspire those who knew her.
“While the passing of a loved one is always painful, there is great comfort in the fact that Mama lived a fulfilled life, raised exemplary children, and left behind enduring values that continue to inspire all who came in contact with her,” he said.
The APC chairman also praised Basiru for the care and attention he gave his mother throughout her lifetime, particularly during her period of illness.
“Professor Yilwatda particularly commends Senator Basiru for the exceptional love, care and devotion he consistently demonstrated towards his mother throughout her lifetime.
“Even during the period of her illness, the national secretary remained steadfast, ensuring she received the best possible attention while balancing the enormous responsibilities of his office and his commitment to the party,” she added.
Yilwatda said Basiru’s commitment to his mother reflected values of compassion, gratitude and family responsibility.

He urged the senator to draw strength from the legacy his mother left behind, saying her virtues would continue to serve as an inspiration to the family.
“Senator Basiru should take solace in the remarkable legacy his mother leaves behind — a legacy reflected in integrity, discipline, humility and service, which have become hallmarks of his public life,” he said.
The APC chairman also prayed for the repose of the deceased and comfort for the family.
“I pray that Almighty Allah, in His infinite mercy, forgives Mama’s shortcomings, grants her eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus, and comforts Senator Basiru, his siblings, children and the entire family with the strength and fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.
“On behalf of our great party, I extend our deepest sympathies to our national secretary and his family at this difficult moment.
“We share in your grief and pray that the Almighty grants Mama eternal rest and gives the family the courage to bear this loss. May her gentle soul rest in perfect peace,”Yilwatda said.
The Osun State chapter of the APC expressed its heartfelt condolences to Basiru and his family on the passing of their mother.
The party described her demise as a painful loss, not only to the family but also to all who knew and benefited from her exemplary life.
In the statement signed by Olabisi, the APC said, “The passing of the late Alhaja Basiru was in accordance with the will of Almighty Allah, who gives life and takes it at His appointed time.”
The party urged the bereaved family to submit to the will of Allah with faith and total acceptance.
The APC also noted that although death remains inevitable for every soul, the departure of a caring mother and a respected matriarch always leaves an irreplaceable vacuum.
“The Osun APC identifies with Senator Basiru at this difficult moment, acknowledging the immense grief associated with losing a beloved mother.
“We pray that Almighty Allah grants him, his siblings, and the entire family the strength, patience, and fortitude to bear the painful and irreparable loss,” the statement read.
The party reaffirmed its solidarity with the party scribe and his family during the period of mourning and prayed that Almighty Allah grants them comfort, peace, and the courage to overcome this difficult moment.
