The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 election in Ogun State, Olamilekan Adeola, popularly called Yayi, has pledged to prioritise the development of Egbaland, particularly Abeokuta, the state capital, if elected governor.
Adeola also promised to execute infrastructure projects aimed at stimulating socio-economic development across the Ogun Central Senatorial District.
He made the pledge on Saturday during a visit to the palace of the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo.
Adeola, who was formally presented to the monarch by his maternal kinsmen from Kemta Odusolu Township in Abeokuta, said he had facilitated several development projects across the six local government areas in Ogun Central despite representing Ogun West Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
He explained that the visit, led by the Oluwo of Kemta, Chief Abayomi Rotimi, was to formally inform the traditional ruler of his emergence as the APC governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The senator also described himself as a bona fide son of Egbaland through his maternal lineage, noting that he had maintained close ties with the area for over two decades.
He commended the Alake for his support and royal blessings, saying the monarch played a significant role in the events leading to his emergence as the party’s governorship candidate.
Adeola assured the people of Egbaland that his administration would be inclusive and would accord the region a central place in governance.

He said, “My visit here today is to formally inform the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, my father, that I am the governorship candidate of the APC.
“I am happy to be presented to this palace by my kinsmen from my maternal side in Kemta Odusolu Township in Abeokuta. I am no stranger to Egbaland because I identified with my maternal roots over 20 years ago. Abeokuta is my maternal home, and I hold the town very dearly.
“As a senator representing Ogun West, I have facilitated several projects, including roads, solar streetlights, water projects, scholarships and bursaries, schools, libraries and health facilities across Ogun Central.
“I want to promise you that I will work for the overall development of Egbaland when I assume office as governor next year. As a bona fide son of the soil, I will not disappoint you because I will run an inclusive government.”
The senator also disclosed that work had commenced on additional constituency projects he facilitated across Ogun Central.
The Alake prayed for the APC governorship candidate and wished him success in his political endeavours.
Earlier, Adeola was received by residents of Kemta Township at a civic reception and homecoming held at the Adire Market, Itoku, Abeokuta.
Addressing the gathering, he promised to promote socio-economic development and expand empowerment programmes for women and youths if elected.
