Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is promoting a deep learning approach to better prepare students for the digital era by strengthening critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and adaptability.
Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Atip Latipulhayat said on Sunday that digital transformation has reshaped nearly every aspect of life, from social interactions and economic activities to global governance.
He noted that the transformation has also created new challenges, including cybersecurity threats, personal data protection, transnational crime, and the growing use of artificial intelligence, all of which require legal awareness, ethical understanding, and cross-border collaboration.
"Technological advancements are moving very rapidly. Thus, the younger generation must possess the ability to continuously learn, adapt, think critically, and understand the various impacts of digital technology," Atip said.
He stressed that education should produce students who not only master knowledge but also demonstrate strong character, creativity, critical reasoning, and the ability to make responsible decisions.
According to Atip, these principles form the foundation of the deep learning approach currently promoted by the ministry.
Through this approach, students are encouraged to gain a comprehensive understanding of concepts, connect learning with everyday life, and develop higher-order thinking skills to address increasingly complex challenges.
Atip also reminded the public that every activity in the digital space carries legal, ethical, and accountability implications that should be understood from an early age.
He therefore emphasized that digital literacy must go hand in hand with character development and critical thinking skills.
