Operatives of the FCT Police Command have arrested a suspected car thief and recovered a Toyota Hilux stolen in the Federal Capital Territory at Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, disclosed this while briefing journalists at the command headquarters during the weekend.
He said the arrest and recovery followed a swift response by operatives of the Maitama Police Division.
According to him, at about 1:45 p.m. on June 20, 2026, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Maitama Division, CSP Altine Daniel, received a distress call reporting the theft of a white Toyota Hilux, a 2014 model with registration number BWR 712 CV, from Wuse II.
Sanusi said the DPO immediately led a team to the scene, where the complainant reported that the vehicle had been parked at about 1.30pm but was discovered missing four minutes later after an unidentified person allegedly drove it away.
He said police operatives immediately alerted formations and checkpoints along entry and exit routes within the FCT to conduct stop-and-search operations and prevent the vehicle from leaving the territory.
“With the aid of our digital tracking technology, the vehicle was traced and recovered at Kubacha in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State at about 3.30pm on the same day. The suspect was arrested in connection with the theft,” the commissioner said.
Sanusi said the suspect and the recovered vehicle remain in police custody while investigations continue to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and identify possible accomplices.
He urged residents of the FCT to remain security-conscious by taking proactive steps to safeguard their vehicles and other valuables.
The commissioner also advised vehicle owners to install functional tracking devices, avoid leaving valuables unattended in their vehicles, and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or the FCT Police Command.
