Part of State Highway 25A in the Coromandel has been closed after a truck exploded into flames this afternoon.
FENZ Northern shift manager Josh Pennefather said the truck fire on Kōpū Hikuai Road was reported to them about 3:30pm.
He said the truck was well ablaze when crews from Thames and Pauanui and two water tankers from Tapu and Puriri arrived about 3:50pm.
About 16 firefighters are working to extinguish the blaze, which is contained to just the truck.
He said the driver of the truck was able to get out and was not injured.
Traffic management is in place, and the road is closed between Kirikiri Valley Road and Puketui Road.
