Person found dead in Te Kūiti following firearms incident

One person has been found dead after armed police descended on small King Country town.

Police earlier said armed officers were responding to a firearms incident on Esplanade in Te Kūiti, with cordons from Ngarongo St to Nettie St.

A spokesperson on Monday afternnon confirmed one person was found dead following the incident and the matter would be referred to the Coroner.

Police said there was no ongoing risk to the public and all cordons in the area had been removed.
