Padang, West Sumatra (ANTARA) - Indonesia's National Development Planning Ministry stated that the nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) completion level in 2025 stood higher than the regional and global averages.
"Our SDGs completion rate is higher than the global average of 18 percent, while the Asia-Pacific average also stands at 18 percent," Pungkas Bahjuri Ali, head of the National SDGs Secretariat at the ministry, stated here on Monday.
Ali explained that, according to the latest evaluation, 62.7 percent of SDG indicators have met their targets, while 13.1 percent require acceleration. Meanwhile, 24.2 percent are classified as "red," meaning they still face significant challenges in achieving their targets.
Based on the latest assessment, Indonesia ranks 77th among 167 countries in SDG achievement, up 25 places from its position in 2019, he added.
The ministry official explained that SDG targets which Indonesia successfully achieved include improving energy services, expanding electricity access for residents, and enhancing the maritime ecosystem.
Indonesia has also strengthened partnerships with various parties to bolster SDG completion in the country, he noted.
Despite the progress so far, Ali said Indonesia still needs to address several remaining SDG challenges, including poverty eradication, which he said requires greater government attention, as well as food security, stunting, and human trafficking.
He then specified that outstanding issues in SDG completion efforts in Sumatra include poverty, stunting, and maternal mortality rates, as well as access to middle and higher education and women's protection.
"In the economic pillar, we should also pay attention to the condition of the informal workforce, the unemployment rate, and regional and financing gaps," Ali said.
The official also underscored the need to resolve issues related to safe drinking water, settlements, waste management, greenhouse gas emissions, and disaster mitigation.
