The Adamawa State Government, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and supported by development partners, has flagged off the distribution of more than two million insecticide-treated mosquito nets to over one million residents as part of renewed efforts to reduce the burden of malaria across the state.
The campaign was officially launched by the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, marking the commencement of the 2026 Integrated Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) and Insecticide-Treated Nets Campaign in Adamawa State.
The initiative is aimed at reducing malaria-related illnesses and deaths, particularly among children under five years of age and pregnant women, while promoting healthier communities across the state.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, Professor Farauta said the intervention reflects the unwavering commitment of the Adamawa State Government to strengthening the healthcare system and improving the well-being of its citizens.

She commended the National and State Malaria Elimination Programmes, frontline health workers, and development partners for their dedication and sustained support in the fight against malaria.
“As a government, we remain resolute in strengthening our healthcare system and ensuring a malaria-free Adamawa State,” the Deputy Governor said.
She described the campaign as another milestone in the state’s collective efforts to tackle malaria, noting that the disease remains a major public health challenge despite ongoing interventions.
According to her, the state government has continued to prioritize effective and sustainable malaria control measures in recognition of the devastating impact of the disease on families and communities.
Professor Farauta urged mothers and caregivers to ensure that eligible children receive all prescribed doses of the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention medicines. She also encouraged households to consistently sleep under the insecticide-treated mosquito nets distributed during the campaign to maximize protection against malaria.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Chubado Mohammed, and the Executive Chairman of the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Suleiman Saidu Bashir, commended the Federal and Adamawa State Governments for the initiative. They expressed optimism that the campaign would significantly improve public health outcomes and reduce the prevalence of malaria across the state.
The distribution of the mosquito nets and implementation of the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention programme form part of ongoing national efforts to curb malaria transmission and strengthen preventive healthcare, particularly in high-burden states such as Adamawa.
