The Accelerated Senior Secondary Education Programme (ASSEP) has concluded a two-day Stakeholders’ Engagement Meeting in Adamawa State aimed at strengthening secondary education and improving learning outcomes across the state.
The meeting, themed “From Engagement to Impact,” brought together government officials, education stakeholders, teachers, and development partners to deliberate on strategies for enhancing the quality of education and equipping students with relevant skills for the future.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Umar Garba, commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his unwavering commitment to the education sector. He said the governor’s investments and reforms were already yielding positive results in the state’s educational system.
Dr. Garba also expressed appreciation to ASSEP for selecting Adamawa State as one of the beneficiaries of the intervention programme. He noted that the initiative would equip students with critical skills needed to excel academically and in their future careers.

He urged students to take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the programme and embrace digital literacy to remain competitive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
Also speaking, the Acting Executive Secretary of the Post Primary Schools Management Board, Mr. Birsan Penuel, described the initiative as a timely intervention that would contribute significantly to educational development, peace, and social progress.
Earlier, Dr. Batulu Isa Muhammad thanked stakeholders for their support and commitment to the programme. She explained that ASSEP was designed not only to improve academic performance but also to reduce vulnerability among young people by promoting entrepreneurship, stimulating economic activities, and encouraging self-reliance among students, school dropouts, and graduates across the North-East.
According to her, the initiative is a strategic intervention focused on strengthening academic support while enhancing the capacity of both teachers and students in the region.
ASSEP is an initiative of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) aimed at improving educational outcomes, enhancing teacher quality, and providing innovative virtual reality learning opportunities for learners in underserved communities across Nigeria.
