Mandaue approves online safety measures for minors

MANDAUE CITY — The Mandaue City Council on Monday, June 29, approved two resolutions aimed at strengthening the protection of minors from harmful online content, including a proposal advocating facial verification for social media accounts and another promoting greater parental awareness of children’s online activities. One of the approved measures, introduced by Councilor Jennifer Del Mar, chairperson of the Committee on Women, Children and Family, urges the city’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Office to endorse recommendations to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) for stronger age verification mechanisms on social media platforms.
