Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions, in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization, launched a workshop to improve sustainable agricultural and food governance and strengthen Indonesia's food security.
The workshop equipped senior officials of the ministry with the skills and methodologies to develop and implement evidence-based policies and interventions to transform Indonesia's food and agricultural systems.
"We hope this workshop can serve as a platform for us to share international experience and global knowledge facilitated by FAO," the Ministry's Director General of Empowerment and Development of Disadvantaged Regions, Samsul Widodo, said here on Monday.
He added that the workshop was also expected to support the ministry's plan to establish centers of excellence for food systems development, where rural communities can learn about healthy diets, food value chains, emergency preparedness, and the development of local food systems.
"The transformation of food and agricultural systems is a relatively new concept, and the ministry has the potential to realize it into concrete action at the grassroots level. Therefore, this training is important for our senior officials as decision-makers," he added.
The training, he continued, offered practical approaches to addressing the challenges faced by villages, such as inadequate institutional capacity to a lack of data.
In addition, the training also introduced an analytical approach based on the FAO Governance Framework, which was launched in 2022 and has been applied in various countries and development contexts.
In addition, the ministry has also established a village development action plan, which includes a series of priorities such as food security, downstreaming of products, youth empowerment, and climate and disaster resilience to support the transformation of food and agricultural systems.
