'Princess Diaries 3' Director Teases “Wish Fulfillment” for Anne Hathaway
A script is never late. Everyone else is simply early.
Princess Diaries author Meg Cabot confirmed that she's read the script for the upcoming Princess Diaries 3 movie, and she approves.
"I read a script, and it was amazing," she told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published June 26. "I told them not to send anymore, because I love it so much."
"They don’t like it when you tell people what’s gonna happen yet," Cabot added. "So I was like, ‘Better not send me any more scripts!’"
The novelist also joked, "I have a problem keeping my mouth shut."
Cabot's seal of approval comes after Anne Hathaway—who stars in the series as Mia Thermopolis—noted in an April interview with Entertainment Weekly that the team behind the film was "100%, we’re constantly working on" the sequel.
She also acknowledged at the time that a third Princess Diaries movie ultimately had to take a backseat in 2025 when The Devil Wears Prada 2 "cropped up unexpectedly and took over the space."
"It became impossible to focus on both at the same time," she continued, adding that her "intention is to make Princess Diaries hopefully next."
More recently, director Adele Lim shared a glimpse into what fans can expect from the third installment more than two decades after Mia Thermopolis ascended to the throne in Genovia in Princess Diaries 2.
"What was so special about this project is that all the fans of the original movie, myself included, are now mothers," Lim told E! News in May. "When I looked at the series and talked about it with Anne, there are so many wish-fulfillment movies for princesses."

"There are no wish-fulfillment movies for queens and that's what we want to see," she continued at the time. "The girls who grew up believing in princesses, we want to grow up believing that there is a world in which you can be a queen and be fabulous and kicking ass and also find a way to mentor the young women coming up after us."
The Crazy Rich Asians co-writer concluded by sharing that she believes that the third installment of the Princess Diaries series is the perfect film for this moment.
"For those reasons," Lim explained, "I feel like The Princess Diaries 3 is a movie we all need in our lives right now."
