A 27-year-old British tourist was found dead in the swimming pool of a holiday rental property in Vilamoura during the early hours of this Monday (June 29).
According to Portuguese authorities, the man had been staying at the local accommodation with a group of friends while on holiday in the Algarve.
The circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation, although there are currently no indications of foul play.
According to Jornal de Notícias, the tourist is believed to have entered the swimming pool during the night before being found unresponsive.
GNR police initially attended the scene before the investigation was handed over to the Polícia Judiciária (PJ), as is standard procedure in cases involving unexplained deaths.
The victim’s body has been taken to the Faro branch of the National Institute of Legal Medicine for an autopsy, the results of which are expected to help determine the exact cause of death.
Investigators are also interviewing members of the group who were staying with the victim as part of their enquiries.
