Portuguese tennis player Nuno Borges will face world No.1 Jannik Sinner in the second round of Wimbledon after defeating American Tristan Boyer in straight sets on Monday.
Borges (48th in the ATP rankings) qualified for the next round this afternoon after beating USA’s Tristan Boyer (191st) in three sets (6-3, 7-5, 7-5), while Italy’s Sinner was pushed to a five-set thriller by Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic (50th), who led by two sets to one before falling to the number one player in the world in the final two sets.
In their only previous meeting, Sinner beat Borges at the ATP Sofia Open in 2022 (6-3, 6-4).
For Borges, their upcoming match will be an opportunity to test his skills against the world’s no.1 player, while Sinner will look to the match as another stepping stone in his path to repeating his 2025 win at Wimbledon.
The Borges v Sinner match-up will take place on Wednesday. Portugal’s other representative at Wimbledon, Jaime Faria (98th), will take to the court tomorrow (June 30) against Japan’s Sho Shimabukuro (90th), no earlier than 11am.
