12 injured as farmers, herders clash in Kano

No fewer than 12 persons sustained injuries in a violent clash between farmers and herders in Warawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

‎The incident occurred in Jigawa Ward, involving farmers from Gadan Sarki village and herders from Majawa and Karade villages.

‎

‎A resident of the area, Balarabe Ado, confirmed that the clash broke out among indigenes of the affected villages.

‎

‎According to him, “The crisis started when a cow strayed into a farmer’s field and grazed on his crops. The farmer struck the cow, prompting its owner to retaliate by beating the farmer.

“The confrontation quickly escalated into a wider conflict, leaving twelve people injured,” Ado added.

‎Chairman of Warawa, Hon. Lamido Sunusi Ahmad, also confirmed the development in a statement issued by his media aide, Musleem Garindau.

‎

‎He said the council chairman visited the injured victims at Wudil General Hospital, where he directed that their medical bills be fully covered until they recover.

‎

‎He commended community leaders and security agencies for their swift intervention, which he said helped restore calm in the area.

‎

Ahmad further urged residents to desist from spreading rumors or engaging in actions capable of heightening tension, stressing the need for dialogue and reconciliation to ensure lasting peace.

‎

‎He reiterated the call on residents to embrace peaceful coexistence and adopt reconciliation mechanisms to prevent further breakdown of law and order.

‎

‎When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Kano state, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said they have not gotten report of the violence yet.

‎

‎He, however, promised to check it to know what happened in the area.
