Angelina Jolie Reveals She Quit Acting Before Brad Pitt Divorce
Angelina Jolie has not been looking for Mr. Right.
In fact, the Mr. & Mrs. Smith star admitted she hasn't been prioritizing her love life following her split from ex-husband Brad Pitt, whom she first separated from in 2016 before finalizing their divorce in 2024.
"To be candid, I haven't dated since I divorced a decade ago," Jolie told Yahoo! Entertainment in an interview published June 22. "So I kind of get in my head that that aspect of me is not centered in my life if I'm focusing on my children, my family."
The mother to Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 17, reflected on pursuing a relationship amid hardship while discussing Couture, her 2026 movie about a filmmaker who rediscovers herself after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
"It took me a second to kind of say, 'Well, she can also love her daughter and be dedicated to her daughter and also need this as a woman and receive this as a woman,'" Jolie said of her role, which she personally connected to given her 2013 preventative double mastectomy after uncovering she carried the BRCA1 gene mutation that indicates a genetic risk of cancer. "Maybe I've come around to being a little bit more the person I used to be."
While Jolie said her kids have been her focus throughout the past decade—which has included eight years of legal conflict with Pitt—she emphasized they've also been a part of her decision to reconsider dating in the future.
"I'm discovering something now that my daughters are older. They're talking to me as young women, and I'm seeing what I want for them," the 51-year-old explained. "I'm seeing what I don't want them to lose and what I want them to hold on to. And it's kind of reminding me what I may have lost."
"I think in some way they're bringing me back to my old self. My desire for them to have all of the strength and openness and softness and faith and ferocity is reminding me," Jolie continued. "I think they kind of want me now to not just be 'Mom.' There's a different room for me to be that woman again, that's not just a mom."

And in this new phase of life, the Golden Globe winner is healing what was ruptured in her past.
"Things are changing, but in a way I didn't expect," Jolie explained of her fresh mindset. "It doesn't feel like I'm 51 and starting to think of being older. I'm thinking I have to live again. Be free again. In a way that maybe life has broken me a little bit.”
