A Thai flight crew member was arrested at Melbourne Airport after Australian authorities discovered one kilogram of heroin concealed inside her luggage.
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) announced on its website on Monday that the 26-year-old woman was detained last Thursday as Australian Border Force (ABF) officers grew suspicious while inspecting her baggage upon her arrival.
The Thai national was on duty as part of an international flight crew when she landed in Melbourne. During an X-ray screening of her 12 tote bags, officers detected irregularities that prompted a thorough search.

Further inspection allegedly revealed a white substance hidden within the lining of the bags. Preliminary testing indicated the substance was heroin, with an estimated street value of approximately A$500,000 (US$344,550).
The AFP did not disclose the suspect's identity, her specific role, or the name of the airline she worked for.
She has been officially charged with importing a marketable quantity of a border-controlled drug, as well as possessing a marketable quantity of a border-controlled drug. According to authorities, each charge carries a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison.
The woman appeared in court last Friday and was remanded in custody. She is scheduled to return to the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Sept. 14.
ABF Commander Clint Sims noted that criminal syndicates continually target trusted insiders, such as airline crew members, to smuggle illicit substances into the country.
"Anyone attempting to import illicit drugs into Australia, regardless of rank or position, will be targeted and face the full force of the law," Sims said in the AFP statement.
He added that ABF officers rely on intelligence-led targeting and advanced detection capabilities to intercept individuals attempting to breach the country's border controls.
