The Executive Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles (Pi-CNG & EV), Barrister Ismaeel Ahmed, has stated that the launch of 100,000 Conversion Kit Programme has helped to accelerate the adoption of CNG conversion in the country.
In a statement to mark his one year in office, Ahmed said the agency also introduced a strategic vehicle conversion financing initiative dubbed “Convert Now, Pay Small Small,” designed to make the transition to cleaner energy affordable for ordinary Nigerians by breaking down the upfront costs of conversion.
Reflecting on a year of hard work, learning, and partnerships, he highlighted that while he formally took office on October 31, 2025, the work began the moment the President entrusted him with the responsibility of securing an alternative energy future for the country.
He noted that a central pillar of the initiative’s first year has been the rapid expansion of the CNG-converted vehicle fleet as tens of thousands of vehicles across Nigeria have now been converted to CNG.
He further disclosed that the initiative’s mandate was expanded by President Tinubu to include electric vehicles, leading to the launch of the Northern Corridor of CNG & EV, where 40 CNG buses, seven electric buses and more than 200 CNG-powered tricycles were deployed in Kano.
He said the initiative has facilitated the commissioning of CNG and Liquefied Compressed Natural Gas (LCNG) stations in several key cities, including Kano, Katsina, Gombe, Kaduna, and Owerri. These developments are serving as the foundation for a robust national rollout of EV charging stations.
Moving forward, he said his ultimate goal remains the reduction of the economic burden on Nigerian families and businesses.
“The foundation has been laid and we will continue to build a transport energy ecosystem that delivers lasting value to our country and real relief to the Nigerian people.”
