Stakeholders in Nigeria’s interior design and construction industry have called for stronger local content and closer collaboration among designers, manufacturers, architects and builders to improve the country’s built environment.
The call was made at the Interior Design Summit organised by the Interior Designers Association of Nigeria (IDAN) in Abuja, where industry players discussed emerging trends and challenges facing the sector.
Speaking during the summit, the General Manager of Abuja Furniture Production (AFP), a subsidiary of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Oliver Cohnen, said collaboration across the industry had become necessary as demand for functional and sustainable spaces continues to grow.
“Interior design has become an increasingly important component of modern construction and urban development,” he said.
He added, “As expectations around functionality, sustainability and user experience continue to evolve, there is a growing need for deeper collaboration between designers, manufacturers, architects and builders.”
Cohnen explained that the summit provided an opportunity for industry players to strengthen partnerships, encourage innovation and improve standards within the sector.
He added that AFP remained committed to manufacturing furniture and interior solutions locally while meeting international quality standards.
Other stakeholders at the summit noted the need to promote local content, support emerging designers and strengthen links between design and construction professionals to improve the quality and functionality of buildings across the country.
The summit brought together interior designers, architects, manufacturers, developers and other stakeholders to discuss the role of design in national development.
