Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected kidnappers over an alleged attempted kidnapping in Ughelli, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects, identified as Iliyasu Hassan, 16, and Idris Abdulkarim, 32, were apprehended during a joint operation by the police and members of a local vigilante group.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Bright Edafe, said the suspects were arrested after they emerged from a nearby forest to purchase food and medication.
According to him, one of the victims of a previous kidnapping incident identified the two suspects as members of the gang that abducted him.
Edafe said the suspects are currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang and recover weapons used in their operations.
He added that investigations are continuing and that the command remains committed to tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes across the state.
