Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Edo State Command, have arrested two suspects over alleged vandalisation of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) pipeline in Edo State
The suspects, Kadiri Isah, 55, and Mustapha Naphiyu, 27, were arrested at a cattle market in Idumabor, Esan West Local Government Area (Ekpoma),
The command’s spokesperson, Efosa Ogbebor, said the suspects specialised in vandalising NNPC pipelines.
He said the suspects had been on the command’s radar for some time and were tracked down through sustained intelligence before they were arrested.
He said during interrogation, the suspects confessed their involvement in the criminal activities, saying one the suspects claimed he bought the items N4 million.
He said efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate while the arrested suspects will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
He warned individuals involved in pipeline vandalism and other acts of economic sabotage to desist or leave Edo State, as there will be no hiding place for criminals undermining the government’s efforts at safeguarding the nation’s critical infrastructure.
He restated the command’s commitment to protecting critical national assets and infrastructure and combating all forms of economic sabotage across the state.
