The Yobe State Police Command has rescued four teenage girls abducted by suspected kidnappers in Fika Local Government Area of the state.
The command said the victims, aged between 15 and 17 years, were abducted on Saturday at Didim village before they were rescued unhurt through a coordinated operation involving police personnel and local vigilantes.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the Fika Divisional Police headquarters received a distress call at about 2:23 p.m. on June 28, that unidentified gunmen had attacked the community and abducted the four girls.
He said operatives attached to the Kukar Gadu police outstation, supported by local vigilantes, immediately mobilised for a rescue mission, while additional reinforcement was deployed from the divisional headquarters.
“The operation led to the successful rescue of all four victims without injury,” the statement said.
The police spokesman added that the rescued girls were taken to the Kukar Gadu Primary Health Care Centre for medical examination and other necessary support before they were reunited with their families.
He said efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest members of the criminal gang responsible for the abduction.
The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, directed sustained intelligence-led operations to ensure the suspects are apprehended and prosecuted.
The police commissioner also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state and urged residents to remain vigilant by providing timely and credible information on suspicious persons, movements and vehicles.
