The Katsina State Police Command has arrested seven suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered stolen mobile phones, power banks and weapons allegedly used in their operations.
The command’s spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement, saying the arrests were made following an intelligence-led investigation into a robbery incident reported at the Central Police Station in Katsina.
According to the statement, the robbery occurred in the early hours of June 19 when the suspects, allegedly armed with cutlasses and clubs, broke into a residence at Unwala Quarters in Katsina metropolis and dispossessed the occupants of valuables.
The stolen items included two motorcycles, seven mobile phones comprising an iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone XR, Samsung, Huawei, Redmi and Tecno Spark 7 devices, as well as two power banks.
The police said operatives immediately launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of the seven principal suspects.
Those arrested were identified as Sulaiman Sabo, also known as Labule; Muhammad Aminu, 20; Muhammad Yahaya; Muhammad Daddy, 20; Aliyu Kabir; Musa Kabir, 20; and Ahmad Usman, 23.
The statement said the suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation, and the police said a search of their hideouts led to the recovery of five stolen mobile phones, two power banks, two cutlasses, a pinch bar believed to have been used for housebreaking, a flashlight and a bunch of master keys.
According to the command, the suspects also identified four alleged accomplices still at large as Dahiru Nuhu Tsoho, Ibrahim alias Iro, Shafi’u Lawal and Aminu C., accusing them of helping to dispose of the stolen property.
The police said efforts were ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects and recover the remaining stolen items.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Ali Umar Fage, commended the operatives for their swift response and urged residents to continue providing timely and useful information to security agencies to support efforts to combat crime.
