Vehicle hits pedestrian on busy Auckland highway

One person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash on Auckland's Mount Wellington Highway.

Emergency services were called to the crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian near the intersection of Penrose Road at around 11.20am on Tuesday.

Diversions were in place via Roslyn Road for southbound vehicles.

Motorists should avoid the area and expect delays, police said.
