Reserve your WhatsApp username for extra security

WhatsApp, the messaging platform under Meta has opened the @username reservation queue. Existing users of Meta platforms can reserve and link their current Instagram or Facebook usernames. Owners of establishments can likewise do the same, which prevents other shady individuals from hijacking legitimate business’ accounts.

If you open WhatsApp, you will see a new pop-up above your chat lists asking you to reserve your username. We suggest to do this immediately. Reserving a username links your account to your current Meta Accounts Center.

The deployment of @username is not new and is seen as one of the most common forms of cybersecurity measures because you won’t be sharing your mobile number to new contacts. A @username will hide your mobile number similar to how Telegram and digital bank Maya work.
