LUCENA CITY – Four local government units in Laguna suspended classes on Tuesday, as a low-pressure area (LPA) threatened to bring heavy rains to the province.
In separate advisories posted on their official Facebook pages Tuesday morning, the local governments of Magdalena, Pagsanjan, Pila, and Santa Cruz announced the suspension of classes at all levels in both public and private schools due to adverse weather conditions.
In Pila, however, authorities directed schools to shift to synchronous online learning in place of face-to-face classes.

“The safety and well-being of our students, teachers, and school personnel remain our top priority. We encourage everyone to stay safe, exercise caution, and continue to monitor official announcements from the government,” the Pila local government said in an advisory posted in Filipino.
The Laguna Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, citing the 5 a.m. bulletin of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said light to moderate rains, with periods of heavy rainfall, are expected across the province due to the LPA.
Under Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 37, s. 2022, face-to-face and online classes at all levels are automatically suspended when Pagasa raises any tropical cyclone wind signal, issues an orange or red rainfall warning, or declares a flood warning for an area.
The order also requires schools to suspend classes if any of these warnings or signals are issued while classes are already in session.
In addition to the automatic suspension policy, local chief executives may suspend classes in their jurisdictions when weather conditions call for it./coa
