MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Risa Hontiveros on Tuesday denied proposing a ban on video games amid online discussions scrutinizing her stance on the matter.
Hontiveros, who chairs the Senate panel on women, children, family relations, and gender equality, scheduled a hearing to examine the role of video games in influencing violent behavior among minors.
“I never recommended, said, or even thought about banning any game, including Gorebox,” Hontiveros asserted in a social media post.

Gorebox is among the games her panel sought to inquire about during the hearing after one of the minors who opened fire in a school shooting incident in Tacloban reportedly played the game before the fatal incident.
Felix Filip, the game developer of Gorebox, was invited to the hearing but declined, saying he is cooperating with other authorities on the matter.
Hontiveros expressed disappointment with the Germany-based developer’s response, saying she hoped to hear from Filip himself about the safeguards in place to prevent minors from accessing inappropriate content. /mcm
