Police say they are investigating after a parent reported a man asked their child to get into a van outside a school in the Hutt Valley on Monday.
"Police were notified that a man in a van asked a young person to get in the van, claiming they had been instructed by the person's parents to pick them up from school," said Inspector Wade Jennings.
"The young person thankfully refused the offer and informed a parent who notified police."
He said the incident happened in Maungaraki at about 3pm on Monday, with police advised at about 7.30pm.
"This is a timely reminder for people in the Hutt Valley area to be aware of any suspicious behaviour around school areas," Jennings said.
Anyone with information can contact police via 105, referencing file number 260629/0195.
