Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesian Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya said the ministry's flagship programs are designed to accelerate the growth of the creative economy and increase its contribution to the country's gross domestic product (GDP).
He said the ministry's key initiatives - Creative Village Activation, Creative Hubs, and Creative by Indonesia - are intended to help local creative businesses expand into national and international markets.
"We also have substantial opportunities in regional markets. Therefore, we hope that all 17 creative economy subsectors, and eventually 21 subsectors, will continue to grow in the coming years," Harsya said during the 2026 Economic Census for the Creative Economy Sector event in Jakarta on Monday.
According to the minister, the creative economy has the potential to generate employment across a wide range of fields, including automotive modification, emerging technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence, digital content creation, and voice acting.
Harsya noted that the creative economy has been identified as one of the drivers of economic growth under President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita agenda, while also supporting the creation of quality jobs.
He added that the Ministry of Creative Economy has also been tasked with contributing to poverty alleviation and the elimination of extreme poverty.
In addition, the ministry serves as a member of a task force under the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs that is responsible for accelerating national economic growth.
With these initiatives, Harsya expressed optimism that the creative economy will make a greater contribution to achieving Indonesia's economic growth target of 8 percent by 2029.
