The Federal Government will on Wednesday launch the Digital National Education Management Information System (DNEMIS), a platform designed to improve education planning and provide reliable data on schools, teachers and learners across the country.
Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja on Monday, National Project Coordinator of the Special Programmes Operations and Implementation Unit in the Office of the Minister of Education, Adebayo Onigbanjo, said the initiative would address long-standing challenges of fragmented and unreliable education data.
He said education planning had for years relied on inconsistent reporting systems, limiting effective policymaking and accountability.
He said the Federal Ministry of Education developed the Nigeria Education Data Infrastructure (NEDI) to standardise and strengthen education data management nationwide.
He described DNEMIS as the flagship component of NEDI, saying it would provide timely and reliable information to support planning, budgeting, monitoring and service delivery.
“The platform will ensure that every learner, teacher, school and public investment in education is captured in one national database,” he said.
Onigbanjo added that the project reflected the ministry’s commitment to implementing measurable reforms.
Also speaking, the Special Assistant to the Minister of Education on Digital Communications and E-Learning, Mojoyin Adebajo, said DNEMIS was built on the globally recognised District Health Information Software 2 (DHIS2) platform.
She said the system would digitise the Annual School Census process and provide government with accurate and timely education data for evidence-based decision-making.
