Jakarta (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said the majority of online transportation app companies agreed to implement the policy of cutting online motorcycle taxi commissions to a maximum of eight percent, in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto's policy.
According to him, major ride-hailing tech companies such as Grab, GoTo, and Maxim are in principle ready to implement the new regulation, although some internal adjustments will still be required in their operations.
"Of course, with the new balance, there will be adjustments or internal adjustments from each app," he confirmed on Tuesday.
Although the revised regulation has yet to be issued, Purwagandhi said operators have committed to supporting the new policy after taking into account the varying business conditions and operational dynamics of each company.
This commitment demonstrates the companies' support for the government's expectations and the aspirations of online motorcycle taxi driver-partners, especially motorcycle riders, who have long sought commission adjustments.
Meanwhile, the InDrive company is still calculating the impact of the policy. However, this process will not delay the implementation of the eight percent maximum commission regulation, the minister noted.
According to him, each operator has different business characteristics, levels of competition, and market share, resulting in different timelines to adapt their business models to the government's new policy.
Purwagandhi also conveyed the government's understanding of the need to strike a balance between the interests of driver-partners, the sustainability of app providers' businesses, and customer convenience to ensure the effective implementation of the eight percent commission.
Previously, he announced the policy of reducing the online motorcycle taxi commission to a maximum of 8 percent would take effect on July 1, 2026.
President Prabowo Subianto had announced the policy of adjusting the online motorcycle taxi commission on May 1, 2026, as part of an effort to improve the welfare of online transportation drivers.
"Not a trial, this will come into effect on July 1," Purwagandhi remarked on Saturday, June 28.
