Kathmandu. NetTV has become Nepal’s first over-the-top (OTT) platform to officially receive a government license to operate an OTT broadcasting service.
The Department of Information and Broadcasting under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology issued the license, formally authorizing the company to provide OTT broadcasting services across the country.
NetTV, Nepal’s first IPTV service provider, launched its OTT application in 2017 and has been delivering digital content to viewers over the internet for several years. With the newly obtained license, the company has now fulfilled the government's regulatory requirements for OTT broadcasting.
Under the license, NetTV can provide 24/7 OTT broadcasting services throughout Nepal via its NetTV mobile application and official website, nettv.com.np. The platform is authorized to stream television channels, foreign programs, movies, web series, and other premium digital content in Nepali, English, Hindi, and other languages.
Promoting the service under the slogan "One Subscription, Unlimited Entertainment," NetTV says it aims to meet the growing demand for internet-based entertainment as viewing habits continue to shift from traditional television to digital platforms.
NetTV Chief Executive Officer Niran Rajbhandari said the company plans to offer users a wider selection of high-quality content following the issuance of the official license.
According to the company, the platform currently hosts a library of more than 1,000 movies spanning multiple genres, along with a wide range of Nepali and international web series and television dramas.
The service also offers live television channels and live sports streaming. Users can access NetTV's content anytime through smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, and other compatible devices. The NetTV app is available for download from the Google Play Store and Apple's App Store.
