Gresik, E Java (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Transmigration Viva Yoga Mauladi stated that the ministry is partnering with the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) to strengthen community empowerment in transmigration areas, particularly along coastal regions.
Speaking in Gresik, East Java, on Monday (June 29), he said the two ministries had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) as a basis for aligning community empowerment programs in the marine and fisheries sector.
"We have signed an MoU with KKP for empowerment programs in the marine sector," Viva Yoga said during the send-off ceremony for the export of 16 tons of blue swimming crab (rajungan) to the United States.
He explained that programs implemented by KKP in coastal areas would be turned into collaborative initiatives if they are located within transmigration areas.
The synergy is expected to boost the productivity of coastal communities, including fishers and fisheries business actors in transmigration areas.
The deputy minister emphasized that cross-ministerial collaboration is part of the government's strategy to ensure that development programs complement one another without overlapping authority.
He noted that the strengthened synergy aligns with the potential of blue swimming crab commodities across several transmigration areas, including Sorong (Papua), Pasangkayu (West Sulawesi), Maluku, North Maluku, as well as the northern coastal areas of Gresik and Lamongan in East Java.
Therefore, the Ministry of Transmigration is encouraging transmigration areas to not only develop food crops, horticulture, and plantation commodities, but also strengthen the fisheries sector as a leading product.
Viva Yoga emphasized that the Ministry will continue to provide guidance, empower local communities, and collaborate with related stakeholders to ensure that downstreaming and industrialization in transmigration areas can boost the income and welfare of both transmigrant communities and residents.
In addition to KKP, the Ministry of Transmigration is also expanding collaboration with other ministries on programs such as school revitalization and electricity access for villages in transmigration areas.
