Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Public Works Ministry is building four suspension bridges in Banten Province to improve connectivity, support local economies and expand access to public services in rural communities, Minister Dody Hanggodo said on Tuesday.
Hanggodo said the bridges are simple but essential infrastructure that provides tangible benefits to local communities.
"Suspension bridges improve mobility, facilitate agricultural distribution and expand access to public services," he said.
The community-based projects are being built in areas separated by rivers, ravines and hills to improve mobility while supporting economic activity and basic public services.
Construction, which began between March and April 2026, covers the Inten Jaya, Cigoong Utara and Kampung Bagu (Ciminyak) suspension bridges in Lebak District, and the Cibungur Suspension Bridge in Pandeglang District.
Each bridge, spanning between 40 and 80 meters, is designed for pedestrians, motorcycles and emergency ambulances, Hanggodo said.
As of June 25, construction was progressing steadily. The 80-meter Inten Jaya Suspension Bridge had reached 26.67 percent completion and is expected to reduce residents' travel time.
The 80-meter Cibungur Suspension Bridge reached 19.25 percent completion. It will connect Tegal Papak and Cibungur Villages, improving safer and more efficient transportation.
The 40-meter Cigoong Utara and Kampung Bagu (Ciminyak) bridges are under construction in Lebak district. Cigoong Utara reached 26.80 percent completion and will improve access to schools, healthcare and markets.
The Kampung Bagu (Ciminyak) Bridge reached 23.50 percent completion. It will connect Kampung Bagu and Kampung Cikaung, reducing travel time and improving public safety.
Hanggodo said the ministry is committed to completing the projects on schedule so communities can benefit sooner while supporting more balanced development in underserved areas.
