MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) urged participants of a rally believed to be mounted by the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) not to affect other individuals who not taking part in the protest-action by blocking major thoroughfares on Tuesday.
“We are not blaming anyone or whatever in this case. That’s why the PNP is seeking understanding with our fellow citizens for the disruption that occurred in our normal lives,” PNP public information chief Col. Allen Rae Co said in a press briefing in Camp Crame.
“We only ask the protest-action organizers not to involve those who are not participating in the rally by obstructing our roads,” he stressed.

The INC mounted a rally near the People Power Monument along the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) on Tuesday morning supposedly in support of Sen. Rodante Marcoleta, who faces an impending plunder case over an alleged campaign donation.
Around 8:30 a.m. on June 30, buses carrying rallyists moved to block all northbound lanes of Edsa but were later pushed back, reopening the bus lane, where authorities allowed private vehicles to pass to ease congestion.
Likewise, the protest action prompted authorities to close down the westbound and eastbound lanes of White Plains Avenue.
Co noted that the PNP was now negotiating with the protest organizers for an end to the demonstration, citing the traffic congestion. /mr
