Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) underscored that the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) will help foster more inclusive and sustainable development in Indonesia.
"Beyond reducing carbon emissions, adopting electric vehicles improves air quality and public health while supporting more inclusive and sustainable development," the minister said in a joint statement with Grab Indonesia in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He noted that the transition to low-emission mobility requires not only technology and investment but also active public participation, including from online motorcycle taxi drivers who provide essential daily transportation services.
"For us, an energy transition that truly benefits the public requires the participation of all stakeholders, including the private sector and frontline mobility workers," he said.
AHY emphasized that collaboration among the government, the private sector, and the public is essential to accelerating Indonesia's transition toward a green economy.
He added that this effort aligns with the government's strategy to develop the national EV ecosystem while supporting Indonesia's target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2060 or earlier.
"Innovation, when developed through collaboration with the public, can deliver solutions that improve energy efficiency and promote sustainable economic growth in Indonesia," AHY said.
Meanwhile, ride-hailing company Grab Indonesia is expanding its portfolio of accessible, low-emission transportation services by increasing the number of electric vehicles in its fleet.
By expanding its EV fleet, introducing more energy-efficient service features, and providing dedicated support for drivers, Grab aims to ensure that sustainability becomes not only a corporate commitment but also part of users' everyday choices.
"As the largest EV fleet operator in Indonesia, Grab's EV fleet reached more than 28,000 vehicles as of May 2026, doubling from the previous year," Grab Indonesia CEO Neneng Goenadi said.
She added that Grab aims to further expand its EV fleet by the end of 2026, tripling the size of its fleet compared with the previous year.
