Are add-ons the next big wave among streaming services? It remains to be seen, but Peacock is getting in the game by launching Starz as an optional subscription add-on, the NBCUniversal-owned platform shared on Tuesday. All subscribers can now sign up for the ad-free platform -- which is home to hits such as Outlander and the Power franchise -- directly in the Peacock app. The price is $12 per month, which is the standard Starz rate without any bundles or promos.
The news comes on the heels of Peacock's launch as an add-on via YouTube Primetime Channels and the announcement that Comcast is spinning off NBCUniversal and Sky as a separate business. It marks the first time that Peacock has offered another streaming service (which could be considered a rival) as an add-on, but it's another avenue for viewers to subscribe in one place. Customers with any Peacock plan tier -- Select, Premium or Premium Plus -- can choose to get Starz tacked on for the additional fee.
"We're excited to partner with Peacock in bringing STARZ as an add-on subscription to the platform for the first time ever," said Alison Hoffman, Starz president. "As a complementary premium service, Starz is built to be distributed in a way that enhances and expands the value of a broader platform."
Peacock's lineup of shows, films, and live programming includes Love Island USA, Telemundo's Spanish broadcasts of the FIFA World Cup, Poker Face, and Strung. In addition to Power and Outlander, Starz carries P-Valley, The Housemaid, and Sweetpea, with an upcoming slate that includes Fightland and S.W.A.T. Exiles.
