Former Head of Government Activities at the Office of the Prime Minister, Aaron Zahra, has publicly denied claims that he was removed from his role, insisting his departure was entirely his own decision.
In a Facebook statement, Zahra said he personally requested that his contract not be renewed following the General Election and formally submitted his resignation.
“It was purely my decision,” he wrote, adding that he had even been asked to reconsider and remain in the role.
Zahra said he decided to speak out after what he described as “unfounded” and “defamatory” attacks against him in recent days, claiming the criticism began only after he resigned from Castille.
He also alleged that both he and his family had been subjected to insults and threats over the past week, describing the accusations against him as fabricated and motivated by jealousy.
Throughout the statement, Zahra defended his record in office, saying he had always acted with integrity, professionalism and loyalty to Prime Minister Robert Abela and his family.
“I entered Castille with a clean name and I left Castille with a clean name, with full integrity and a clear conscience,” he wrote.
Zahra concluded by thanking those who had shown him support, while also lamenting what he described as the lack of genuine concern for mental health when individuals come under public attack.
