Prank callers in Mandaue City face imprisonment, fines

MANDAUE CITY — Prank callers and individuals who make false emergency reports in Mandaue City may soon face fines and imprisonment after the City Council approved on first reading a proposed ordinance penalizing the misuse of the city’s emergency hotlines and command systems. Authored by Councilor Jennifer Del Mar, the proposed “Mandaue City Anti-Prank Emergency Communications Ordinance” seeks to prohibit prank calls, malicious communications and false emergency reports made to the city’s official emergency hotlines, the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection and other emergency response agencies.
