Over 2K permanent security guards active in public schools – DepEd

MANILA – The Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday clarified that more than 2,000 security guards currently fill permanent positions in public schools nationwide. The clarification came after Education Secretary Sonny Angara expressed interest in requesting more plantilla items for security guards from the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) due to the recent violent incidents in schools across the country. “Education Secretary Sonny Angara previously highlighted the historical reduction of school-level security items during past rationalization programs to provide context on the current staffing baseline,” the DepEd said in a statement.
