The health ministry said Tuesday it
was not aware of the five heat-related deaths in Italy in the
last 24 hours reported by the World Health Organization.
"Regarding the statements from the World Health Organization,"
which released the figure of 5 heat-related deaths in Italy in
24 hours, "we are currently not aware of these deaths. As I have
said several times, our data is 'just in time,' based on real
data communicated to us by the municipalities, and to date we
have no peaks to report," Maria Rosaria Campitiello, head of the
Ministry of Health's Prevention Department, told ANSA on the
sidelines of a conference in the Senate.
"We act on real data, the WHO makes a count based on statistical
projections," she said.
