Dylan O’Brien to Play Disgraced Reality Star in Hulu Comedy Pilot ‘Lex’

Dylan O’Brien is set for the lead role in the Hulu comedy pilot “Lex,” Variety has learned.

The pilot order for the project was originally announced in March. The logline for the show states that it follows Lex (O’Brien), “a disgraced former reality star who accidentally films a murder in the background of a $20 Cameo video, and finds himself at the center of a global conspiracy — and on the run from powerful forces who want him dead. Using the skills he acquired navigating reality TV’s toxic social dynamics, Lex must fight to not get killed, to expose the truth, and most importantly… to get back on TV.”

Should “Lex” go to series, it would be O’Brien’s first regular television role since his time on the popular MTV series “Teen Wolf,” on which he starred for six seasons. He has primarily been seen in films, including leading the “Maze Runner” franchise and recent features like “Send Help” opposite Rachel McAdams, “Saturday Night” from Jason Reitman, and “Ponyboi.” He will next be seen in the upcoming Apple drama “Being Heumann.”

He is repped by WME, Principal Entertainment LA, and Lichter Grossman.

O’Brien is an executive producer on “Lex” in addition to starring. Sean Clements is the writer and executive producer, with Paul Simms also executive producing. 20th Television is the studio.

“Lex” is one of several pilots that Hulu currently has in contention. Most recently, the streamer announced a pilot pickup for the drama “Young Americans” from Chris Hutton & Eddie O’Keefe. currently prepping pilots for “Southern Bastards” starring Kevin Bacon, Erin Kellyman and Tim McGraw, “Durango” starring Cooper Hoffman and Kathryn Newton, and “Chicks” starring Ellen Pompeo among others. Hulu’s Onyx Collective also has Ryan Coogler’s “X-Files” reboot pilot in the works starring Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel.
