MANILA – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Tuesday night, June 30, placed all its units in Metro Manila under red alert to ensure heightened operational readiness.
As of posting time, law enforcement units continue to monitor the ongoing rally of religious group Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) near the EDSA People’s Power Monument in Quezon City.
The INC organized the rally early Tuesday morning at the corner of the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue and White Plains Avenue to express support for Sen. Rodante Marcoleta, who faces an impending plunder case over an alleged undeclared campaign donation.
“This standard measure keeps AFP personnel and assets prepared to support civil authorities, when requested, in accordance with the constitution, existing laws, and established procedures,” the AFP said in a message to reporters.
The AFP said it continues to coordinate with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other government agencies to promote public safety, security and the uninterrupted delivery of essential services.
“The AFP remains a professional, non-partisan institution committed to upholding the rule of law, respecting human rights, and protecting the rights of all Filipinos while fulfilling its mandate to safeguard the nation,” it added. (With a report from Inquirer.net)
